When considering Vintage still photo lenses for cinema shooting . . .

Vintage lenses can add a whole new look to your cinematography offerings.

Just by being produced in a time when different materials were used, coatings were minimal, led was used and some are somewhat radioactive due to the Thorium coatings.

It is all personal taste as to wether you choose Canon, Nikon, Contax Zeiss, or Leica.
They all offer a different look than the newer auto focus primes and zooms.

If for you this is adding a set to your toolbox other than your standard go to cine set for the purpose of offering to your clients a different look, or a starting point for another look. Or if this is your first camera package and first set of prime lenses, these can be an inexpensive way to equip yourself. Vintage lenses can do all of this.

You can have done to them a cine modified upgrade, consisting of a de-clicked and damped aperture ring for smooth cine lens like T stop setting. A press-fit 32 pitch focus gear to work with your remote or manual follow focus. A stepped up 80mm OD common front to work with matte boxes and clip-on shades.

This is a good cost efficient upgrade that will allow good use of these lenses in the cinema world.

Another option is to have the lens re-housed completely to look like a cinema lens and can be performance enhanced, but can be just as costly as buying a used cine set.

Your choice, your set, your budget.
